Patrick Ada has been named in the weekend’s npower Football League Team of the Week after his performance against table topping Chesterfield on Saturday.

Ada spent his third game at right-back, despite Tootle recovering from his virus, and was pretty much faultless throughout the match.

The former Histon man found chances in the first team hard to come by last season but has been almost ever present this campaign, missing just the one game.

He certainly pushes Shaun Miller as one of the most improved players over the course of the season, despite the club’s rather poor defensive record – though, surprisingly, we do stand with the joint best home defensive record in League Two.

He’s one of 11 players who will be out of contract at Gresty Road this season and it’s been suggested that the club may not be able to afford to keep him, although with his recent performances you have to wonder if other clubs will be eyeing him up anyway.

Ada was the only Railwayman named in this week’s ‘TOTW’, which is selected by the Press Association who have journalists at every ground. I personally however would have also had Adam Dugdale in there, he was superb and is currently leading the Vital Crewe Player Ratings vote.

There was however joy for former Alex players. Adam Legzdins was named as the best keeper of the weekend with former Alex youngster and current Aldershot defender Anthony Charles named alongside last season’s loanee Harry Worley, who is now at Oxford. Worley netted Oxford’s winner at Vale Park, so thoroughly deserved.

Team in full: Legzdins (Burton), Ada (Crewe), Worley (Oxford), Charles (Aldershot), O’Brien (Bradford), Zebroski (Torquay), Rose (Hereford), Mousinho (Stevenage), Robinson (Torquay), Grimes (Lincoln), McLeod (Barnet).
