Offer Made To A Keeper

Crewe Alexandra have made an offer to a young goalkeeper to play second fiddle to a new number one. The keeper is thought to be Ben Hinchliffe, the 19 year old was recently released by Derby County.

Assistant manager Neil Baker confirmed that the club had put a contract on the table for the youngster as the club search to completely revamp that area of the squad. Former number one Ben Williams has already move on after rejecting a contract whilst rookie Owain Fon Williams looks set to reject his contract extension too.

Having also been turned down by former Gretna keeper Greg Fleming, the club are thought to have spoken to Yeovil’s Steve Mildenhall about taking the number one shirt.

Neil Baker spoke to crewealex.net: ‘We have made an offer to a young goalkeeper and are waiting for a response. We need two goalkeepers for the forthcoming friendlies let alone for the start of the new campaign so we are busy working through our list of possibilities.

‘He is a young goalkeeper who does not have that much experience, although he has had a couple of loan spells with other clubs. We have room for an up-and-coming goalkeeper within the squad, especially if Owain decided to move on.’

Hinchliffe is also attracting interest from Darlington and Stockport.
