Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis retains hope of kicking-off the new season with skipper Luke Murphy still wearing the captain’s armband.

“I would imagine clubs are keeping their options open” – Steve Davis

The 23-year-old was a key performer for the Alex last season with a string of influential displays and nine goals to his credit – including a superb opener in their Wembley triumph against Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.

Those were all achieved against a regular backdrop of strong rumours of a possible switch elsewhere. However, despite Davis still expecting further interest the current market situation remains quiet.

“I have been surprised that no-one has contacted me yet in regards to Murph,” he confirmed to Crewe’s official website. “That has been surprisingly quiet as well, but I would imagine clubs are in the same boat as us and they are keeping their options open.”
