Derby boss Paul Jewell has, as expected, denied that Crewe have made a move to bring Robbie Savage back to Gresty Road.
It was reported by a national newspaper on Wednesday that Dario Gradi was lining up Savage for a player coach role, 11 years after departing the Alex.
However, Savage’s current boss Paul Jewell says that only League One rivals Brighton have made an enquiry so far – one which Savage wasn’t keen on.
Paul Jewell told burtonmail.co.uk: ‘Brighton asked about him but it was not for Sav. If it happens and someone comes on and Sav wants to do it and it suits us, we’ll do it, but he did not want to go to Brighton on loan.
‘That’s no problem with me. I have not heard from Crewe.’
The 33 year old , who’s just started a Sports Broadcasting course put on by the PFA, started his professional career at Gresty Road after being released as a youth from Manchester United. He went on to play over 90 games in red before a rather sour £400,000 move to Leicester City in 1997. He has gone on to play for Birmingham, Blackburn and his current club Derby County – somehow becoming one of the most ‘hated’ players in British football.
