Crewe Alexandra won’t be appealing against a three-match ban for on loan Arsenal midfielder Chuks Aneke.

“We’ll give him the benefit of the doubt this time” – Steve Davis

The nineteen-year-old received a straight red card following a challenge on Stevenage’s Anthony Grant during the weekend 2-2 draw at the Lamex Stadium.

Manager Steve Davis had initially considered appealing against the decision but after reviewing the incident has decided against it.

“Having now looked at it several times from the opposite side, for whatever reason he does go in with two feet,” Davis told BBC Stoke & Staffordshire. “On this occasion, I can’t back him up. He’ll have to take his punishment and learn the lesson very quickly.

“But he’s not malicious. He’s not that sort of lad,” he added. “Whether it was a rush of blood, I don’t know. But we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt this time.”
