Crewe Alexandra have made their first signing of the January transfer window as Newcastle United right-back Jamie Sterry has joined on loan until the end of the season, the club announced before yesterday’s home game against Colchester United.
Sterry, 23, will be familiar to Crewe fans with the young right-back playing 9 times for the club during the second half of last season but has gained a little experience in the Newcastle first-team this season after making 3 appearances in the EFL and FA Cups with his contract with the Toon side having another year to run following the end of this loan deal.
What should Crewe fans expect from Sterry?
He’s someone that has the benefit of knowing how the club is set-up and will add some depth to the full-back roles with only Perry Ng and Harry Pickering that play full-back since Corey Whelan and Kevin O’Connor left earlier in the month. It’ll be interesting how Sterry and the other 2 full-backs will fit into the side for the rest of the season assuming that all 3 remain fit during the rest of the season.
