Steve Davis has not been in the job a day but he’s already set about sorting out the outstanding issues within the Alex squad this season.

That begins with finding a new striker who can add height & strength to the Alex forward line, with Davis and his new assistant manager Neil Baker already scouring the loan market.

After finishing League Two’s top scorers last season, we’ve not quite hit the same scoring form this season thanks to Clayton Donaldson’s summer departure.

The Ajay Leitch-Smith & Shaun Miller partnership has had a lacklustre start to the season with a blatant need for a bit of brute force up front.

Speaking to The Official Website, Davis said that doing a deal to add that extra strength up front is now top priority.

‘I’ve felt we’ve needed a big centre forward for a long time.

‘We’re on that now. As soon as I got in this morning me and Bakes talked for a long time about who we could bring in.

‘That’s the first thing I want to do as well as maybe a left footed left back.

“Priority at the moment is to try and get that big centre forward.’
