Second-half goals from Joel Tabiner and substitute Elliott Nevitt saw Crewe Alexandra come from two behind again, this time at Plough Lane against AFC Wimbledon.
Manager Lee Bell made 1 change from last Saturday’s 4-1 win at Forest Green as Ryan Cooney replaced Aaron Rowe, who dropped down to the bench, with Rio Adebisi moving to the wing.
The opening chance of the game went the hosts’ way in the 6th minute with Josh Neufville having a shot deflected behind for a corner before the first Alex chance came on 20 minutes with Courtney Baker-Richardson forcing Alex Bass into a save. Wimbledon should have opened the scoring midway through the half as James Tilley would miss a big chance before they would take the lead on the half-hour as Neuville would fire into the bottom corner from a low cross from the right. A second would follow 7 minutes before the break as Tilley finished into the corner after being allowed to take the ball inside onto his stronger left foot.
After a half-time change that saw Zac Williams replace Connor O’Riordan, it took just 7 minutes for the lead to be reduced as Cooney’s low cross would find Tabiner at the back post to score from 6 yards out before the Alex thought that they had levelled the score in the 7th minute of stoppage-time with Williams heading in an out-swinging corner from Tabiner but had it disallowed for Chris Long being offside in front of the keeper. They would get the leveller 4 minutes later, a through-ball would find the feet of sub Nevitt who drove the ball into the bottom corner.
The next couple of games see the Alex host Colchester United next Saturday before travelling to Wrexham the following Saturday.
Final Thoughts:
It was another game that saw the Alex remain in the game for long enough to go on to get something out of it (though that shouldn’t have been the case after Harvey Davies made a number of saves in the first half) but we saw another second half performance where the team showed a lot of resilience and determination.
Second half table so far this table, Lee Bell’s dressing room words work and long may it continue #CreweAlex pic.twitter.com/aGGO6skatS
