Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis described leading the club to their Wembley triumph at the end of last season as the finest achievement of his career.

“It was my finest achievement in my career because it was so unexpected” – Steve Davis

Davis incredibly managed to turn a side struggling against possible relegation into serious play-off contenders and in turn a promotion-winning side within six months of his appointment.

“The last twelve months has flown by and last season, going on that long unbeaten run and winning at Wembley was like a dream,” he told Crewe’s official website. “It was my finest achievement in my career because it was so unexpected.

“When I took over a year ago, the place was a bit flat and despondent because we were not playing as well as we could with the group of players we had,” he added. “We got them going again and the players and all the staff worked really hard to achieve what we did.”
