Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips believes skipper Luke Murphy has the right credentials for the job.

Murphy took over the armband following the departure of midfield partner Ashley Westwood in a £2m deal to Aston Villa in August.
The experienced Phillips had also been a contender to succeed him at the time but considers Murphy’s ability to lead his colleagues by example as particularly suitable for the role.
“I thought Murph was excellence for us last season and he has carried that on,” Phillips told Crewe’s official website. “He is a quiet, laid-back character and leads by example by what he does on the pitch. He was a star for us last season and we need him to be like that again this season.”
