Former Crewe Alexandra and England international Danny Murphy has signed for relegated Blackburn Rovers.

The 35-year-old midfielder has agreed a two-year deal at Ewood Park after being released by Fulham at the end of last season.

Rovers are preparing for life back in the Championship following their first relegation in eleven years and Murphy becomes manager Steve Kean’s first signing of the summer.

But he had to fight off considerable competition for the ex-Liverpool, Charlton Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur playmaker who skippered Fulham and played over 200 games in five seasons.

“Being able to bring Danny on board is a massive boost for everyone,” Kean told Blackburn’s official website. “His record is there for all to see. He is a model professsional.”
