Byron Moore celebrated signing a new two-year contract with a goal and summer recruit Mathias Pogba was also on target in an opening 2-0 pre-season friendly victory at neighbours Congleton Town.

Moore netted at the end of a fine solo break four minutes before half-time and substitute Pogba added a second when collecting from AJ Leitch-Smith early in the second period.

Young winger Brendan Daniels had already twice struck the woodwork for the visitors, while their opponents were similarly denied on a couple of occasions.

Alex manager Steve Davis included 25 members of his squad at varying stages with only goalkeeper Steve Phillips and Kelvin Mellor missing out with knee and ankle injuries respectively.

There were also opportunities for trialists Josh Windass, son of former Bradford City and Hull City striker Dean, Abdul Osman, James Spray and ex-Everton youngster Luke Dobie.
