Money , Money, Money

The search for a striker continues…..now referred to as ‘Strikergate’. It has now entered its 3rd and final month. At the end of this month the door will firmly shut and to quote a famous Dario comment we ‘will have to go with what we have got’

Names galore have been linked with the club, from premiership youngsters such as Lee Barnard, Craig Lindfield to the experienced John Hartson.

The loss of the 40+ goal partnership from last season would hit any team hard and Maynard’s untimely injury has further highlighted the need for replacements.

For a club of Crewe’s size and stature bringing in players is not easy, transfer fees, wages and add-ons are always potential stumbling blocks.

But if we are to progress and are serious about mounting a serious promotion push then ‘Strikergate’ needs to be resolved and quick.

Whilst we might have won our opening game, a reliance on youngsters Shaun Miller, Tom Pope and Byron Moore however talented they may prove to be, is something that the club need to avoid.

With 2,500,000 banked from the summer sale of Luke Varney to Charlton we are in desperate need of reinforcements in the striking area and yet again we hear the same old story.

Lee Barnard prefers Crewe, but do the moneymen at the lane? And more importantly his agent – you always feel their is a sting in the tale and until the deal is rubber stamped you cannot take anything for granted.

Of course we, the fans are not under any illusions. It’s a difficult task and one that Holland (pictured) and Gradi are busting a gut to fix.

But for once i would like us to push that boat out. Desperate times call for desperate measures and it’s about time we took a risk or two otherwise another season of mediocrity awaits.

Crewe Vitalwants your views? Do the club lack ambition, Should they push the boat out or are you happy to go with what we have got?
