Crewe Alexandra skipper Luke Murphy has signed a new two-year deal at Gresty Road.

The 22-year-old midfielder who is close to 150 senior appearances for the club since originally progressing through their youth ranks has put pen to paper after successful talks.

Murphy had only recently been appointed captain following the sudden departure of predecessor Ashley Westwood to Aston Villa in the latest transfer window.

His decision follows as more positive news for the Alex after AJ Leitch-Smith, Adam Dugdale, Harry Davis and Byron Moore recently agreed longer deals with the club.
