Shaun MacDonald Retires From Football

Crewe Alexandra have announced that midfielder Shaun MacDonald has retired from professional football after making 289 appearances in his club career as well as representing his country at international level.

MacDonald, 33, has brought his career to a close after coming through and spending 6 years at Swansea City, 4 separate loan spells at Yeovil Town, 5 years with AFC Bournemouth (including 3 sub appearances for them in the Premier League in the 15/16 season during his final season with the Cherries in their first season in the top-flight), 3 seasons at Wigan Athletic and 2 seasons at Rotherham United before joining the Alex earlier in the summer, making 3 league appearances as well as one in the Carabao Cup at Hartlepool United.

He would also win caps for Wales at Under-19 (five caps and one goal), Under-21 (where he is the record cap holder at that level with twenty-five caps, scoring two goals) and full international level, winning 4 caps at the latter between 2010 and 2016.
