Gomes Becomes 11th Signing Of The Summer

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that Guinea-Bissau-born Spanish midfielder Madger Gomes has joined the club on a 2-year deal, becoming the eleventh signing of the summer. He was on trial at Portsmouth and had been linked with Charlton Athletic, both earlier in the summer.

Gomes, 24, started his career at Villarreal (making an appearance at the age of 16 for their B team) before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2014. He would join Leeds United in the summer of 2017 and would also spend time with French club Sochaux and Croatian side Istra before spending the last 2 seasons at Doncaster Rovers.

He has represented Spain at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-18 levels.

What are the Alex getting from this signing?

He’s another central midfielder who is comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder or as one of the two midfielders ahead of them in our 4-3-3 formation (or even as a false 9 like he did at the Alexandra Stadium last season).

He played most of the games a couple of seasons ago before Covid ended the season early before playing roughly half the games last season.
