Promising defender Kelvin Mellor is relieved to finally get his future sorted out and can now fully concentrate on Crewe Alexandra’s upcoming return to League One.

The 21-year-old followed the example of highly-rated winger Byron Moore and signed a new two-year deal at Gresty Road earlier this week.

That finally ended weeks of recent speculation regarding his future, which further increased when Derby County stepped in with the offer of a three-year deal at Pride Park.

However, Mellor ignored the lure of the Championship and instead stuck with his hometown club after they revised their original offer.

“I am thrilled and I really cannot wait to get going again,” Mellor told Alex’s official website. “The club made me a very reasonable offer and I was delighted to sign it.”
