Brighton defender Jim McNulty is in intensive care with a ruptured kidney following their match with the Alex.
When the 24 year old went off on the hour mark Brighton had used all three available substitutions and had to play out the remaining time with 10 men. The Alex went on to score another three goals in the big 4-0 win at the Withdean.
McNulty however was hospitalised with what was later to be revealed a ruptured kidney after taking a blow to the back.
Brighton caretaker boss Tommy Fraser paid McNulty a visit and told The Argus: ‘Poor Jim makes you realise there is more to life than football at times. He is in quite a bad way, although he was quite good in himself.
‘He’s got tubes coming out of him and his kidney is quite bad.’
Football aside, Vital Crewe would like to wish McNulty well and we hope he makes a complete recovery.
