Another day closer to January and the opening of the transfer window and another Crewe player is linked with a move away from the club.

Yesterday full-back Danny Woodards was reported to be attracting interest from Premiership clubs Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

Today it has been reported in the Birmingham press that West Brom are keeping tabs on Crewe’s highly rated forward Nicky Maynard.

Maynard has only just recovered from a broken leg suffered in the opening game of the season, but with an impressive 21 goals in 43 games and at only 21 years of age, bigger clubs are starting to take an interest.

This is dismaying news for Alex fans who will be keen to see Nicky stay at the club but whether any firm offers will be forthcoming waits to be seen.

Crewe have yet to comment on the speculation but there is no doubt any club wishing to buy Maynard’s services will surely have to pay a high price.

Young English talent is at a premium in the current footballing climate and Maynard certainly has the talent and ability in abundance to warrant the current interest.
