Striker Max Clayton says his talented feet will firmly remain on the ground at Crewe Alexandra.

“The test for me now is to have a good season and see how well I can develop” – Max Clayton

The highly-rated eighteen-year-old already has a very bright future predicted and recently collected the Football League Young Player of the Month award for August.

That followed him being on target twice against Hartlepool United in the League Cup while scoring the only goal in the league defeat of Coventry City. He was also called up for the England Under-19 side in Germany.

“Crewe is the best place to start your career,” Clayton told the Crewe Chronicle . “There is nowhere else in the country where you would be playing regularly at the age of 18. The test for me now is to have a good season and see how well I can develop.”

Comparisons are naturally already being made in terms of his overall potential with former Alex starlet Nick Powell, who earned himself a dream £6m move to Manchester United in May.

“Nick and I have known each other since we were five or six years old and it gives me goosebumps seeing him come on for United,” added Clayton. “We were so close in ability so it gives me the belief that I can do something similar one day.”
