The versatile 21-year-old defender has been pushed forward into a more attacking midfield role since recovering from a recent groin and hip injury.
And following an impressive start in the draw at Carlisle United, the ever-willing Tootle soon celebrated his new-found responsibility in style when firing the Alex in front against Leyton Orient at the weekend.
“It was a really great finish from Matt,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “He showed that he can take a goal and it was a controlled finish that went into the roof of the net. I thought he played the role well and was a menace to the opposition.”
