A goal from Cheltenham captain Jamie Grimes 7 minutes after half-time as Cheltenham got their first win in 7 weeks at home to Crewe Alexandra at Whaddon Road yesterday afternoon.

Crewe manager David Artell made 3 changes from last Sunday`s game against Blackburn with Ben Garratt replacing Dave Richards in goal with Michael Raynes and Eddie Nolan came in at centre-back replacing Sam Stubbs and midfielder Callum Ainley as Brad Walker moved back into midfield. They all dropped to the bench where they were joined by Zoumana Bakayago, Charlie Kirk, Lewis Reilly and Conor Grant.

The opening chance of the game came in the 4th minute with Danny Wright shooting over the bar from 10 yards out before Garratt, in his first league game since September, almost gave the hosts the lead on 9 minutes but Mohamed Eisa couldn`t turn the ball goal-wards. Crewe`s first chance came mid-way through the first period as Walker`s 30-yard effort went narrowly wide.

10 minutes before the break Eisa volleyed the ball over before a double-stop from Scott Flinders denied both Chris Porter and George Cooper a minute later. Garratt made a save from Jerrell Sellars following a header from Eisa.

The only goal of the game came 7 minutes after the break with Will Boyle`s flick finding Grimes who finished from 6-yards out. The next chance came on the hour as Harry Pell`s volley from 30 yards was ambitious but didn`t trouble Garratt. The best chance to equalise came with 4 minutes to play as Tom Lowery`s pass found Porter whose effort was straight at Flinders before Ainley fired over in the final minute of the game.

Crewe host Blackburn in the FA Cup 2nd Round replay on Tuesday night before getting back to league action next Saturday for the visit of Crawley Town.
