Tomorrow’s game sees Crewe Alexandra travel to the Wirral to play Tranmere Rovers. The hosts have 3 former Alex players in their ranks with forward Chris Dagnall joining defenders Mark Ellis and Zoumana Bakayago in January.

Looking at the hosts, so far this season they have 15 victories, 10 draws and 10 losses in the league as they sit in 6th place in the league. In the league, they have beaten Cheltenham Town twice, Port Vale, Carlisle United, Lincoln City, Morecambe twice, Macclesfield Town, Crawley Town, Exeter City twice, Cambridge United, Stevenage, Port Vale and Notts County, they have drawn with Stevenage, Mansfield Town, Northampton Town, Colchester United, MK Dons, Yeovil Town Oldham Athletic, Yeovil Town and Cambridge whilst they have lost to Swindon Town twice, Newport County, Forest Green Rovers, us, Grimsby Town, Notts County, Bury, Mansfield and Northampton.

In cup competitions, they lost against Walsall in the EFL Cup whilst they lost all 3 EFL Trophy games against ourselves, Shrewsbury Town and Manchester City’s Under-21 team. In the FA Cup, they were knocked out in Round 3 by Tottenham Hotspur after beating Oxford City and Southport, both after a replay.

Looking back in the archives, the two teams have met 136 times with Tranmere leading the head-to-head with 58 wins to 45 with 33 draws. Tranmere’s biggest win came in February 1937 with a 6-1 win at Prenton Park with Crewe’s biggest win coming at the same venue and by the same scoreline in December 1961. Both teams won their home games (2-1 to the Alex at the Alexandra Stadium and 1-0 to Tranmere at Prenton Park) during the 2013/14 season but we have 2 victories over the hosts so far this season as we edged a 7-goal thriller in the EFL Trophy before winning 3-2 at the Alexandra Stadium in the other league fixture.
