Tomorrow afternoon sees the first of two home games against relegation-threatened teams with Notts County travelling to the Alexandra Stadium looking to complete a league double over the Alex having beaten us 2-1 at Meadow Lane back in September. Amongst the players in their squad are Alex Academy graduates Matt Tootle and David Vaughan.

So far this season, they have beaten us, Crawley Town, Macclesfield Town, Tranmere Rovers, Forest Green Rovers, Mansfield Town, Carlisle United and Stevenage, they have drawn with Colchester United, Stevenage, Northampton Town twice, Port Vale twice, Oldham Athletic, Morecambe twice, Carlisle, Bury, Colchester United and Lincoln City while they have lost against Cambridge United twice, Yeovil Town twice, Newport County twice, Lincoln, Forest Green, Exeter City twice, Bury, MK Dons, Swindon Town, Cheltenham Town twice, Mansfield, Grimsby Town, Macclesfield, Oldham and Tranmere.

In the cup competitions, they lost on penalties to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup 1st Round before being knocked out at the same stage of the FA Cup. They came 2nd in their EFLĀ  Trophy group that contained Newcastle United’s Under-21 team, Doncaster Rovers and Grimsby before being knocked out by Sunderland in Round 2.

Looking back in the archives, the two teams have met 46 times with Notts County leading the head-to-head with 23 wins to 14 with 9 draws. Crewe’s biggest win came in their first home game against the Magpies with a 5-1 victory in October 1895 whilst County’s biggest win came in February 1894 as the score finished 9-1 at Meadow Lane. Both of last season’s games were home wins with the Alex winning 2-0 at the Alexandra Stadium in October whilst County won 4-1 in the corresponding fixture.
