Match Preview – MK Dons (A)

|

Tomorrow sees the first trip to Stadium:MK since Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli ripped us a new one in September 2014 with the Dons winning that game 6-1 in the last meeting at the ground.

Looking at the hosts, so far this season they have 13 victories, 8 draws and 5 losses in the league as they sit in 4th place in the league. In the league, they have beaten Oldham Athletic, Bury, Exeter City, Port Vale, Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United twice, Northampton Town, Notts County, Crawley Town, Macclesfield Town, Morecambe and Carlisle United, they have drawn with us, Grimsby Town, Swindon Town, Forest Green Rovers, Yeovil Town, Tranmere Rovers, Mansfield Town and Northampton and they’ve lost to Lincoln City, Stevenage, Colchester, Cheltenham and Bury.

In cup competitions, they lost against Grimsby in the FA Cup 1st Round and to Bournemouth in the 2nd Round of the EFL Cup (after knocking out Charlton Athletic in Round 1) and finished bottom of their EFL Trophy group which contained Luton Town, Peterborough United and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-21 side.

Looking back in the archives, the two teams have met 10 times with MK Dons leading the head-to-head with 4 wins to 3 with 3 draws following August’s 0-0 draw in South Cheshire. MK Dons’ biggest win occurred in the last meeting between the teams before this season in January 2015 where they won 5-0 with Crewe’s biggest win was a 2-0 victory in January 2014.

Who are the officials for the game?

The officials for this game see Andy Haines as the man in the middle where he is assisted by Wayne Grunnill and Simon Shaw with Anthony Da Costa being the fourth official. Here are the Crewe games that have been refereed by Haines in the previous 5 years:

  • Crewe Alexandra 2-1 Preston North End (3rd May 2014) – Dugdale, Pogba
  • Crewe Alexandra 1-0 Bristol City (20th December 2014) – Ness
  • Crewe Alexandra 1-2 Shrewsbury Town (28th December 2015) – Colclough
  • Leyton Orient 0-2 Crewe Alexandra (29th October 2016) – Davis, Cooper
  • Doncaster Rovers 3-1 Crewe Alexandra (21st January 2017) – Jones
  • Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 Crewe Alexandra (26th September 2017) – Dagnall (2)

I asked MK Dons supporter Jonathan Harries for his thoughts going into the game.

How do feel that your season has gone since we last played?

Since we last played I’d say we’ve progressed massively. We’re playing more as a unit and there’s more of a structure to our game.

What do you think the team will be for tomorrow’s game?

Nichols Walsh Cargill JMT Brittain Lewington Gilbey Houghton Agard Aneke Pawlett

Is Gilbey the danger man for this game or is there someone else that we should look out for?

If he was still here I’d have said Healey but yes either Gilbey or Aneke. On his day Chuks Aneke can single-handedly change a game.

Any changes in where you will finish (previously said that you would finish in the play-offs) or to who you think will be promoted and relegated?

I think we will get automatically promoted along with Lincoln and either Mansfield or Bury.
Unfortunately, I can see Notts County and Morecambe getting relegated.
