This afternoon sees the final game before Xmas with a trip to the new Plough Lane stadium to face AFC Wimbledon.

This season:

They sit in 14th place in the league after wins against Fleetwood Town, Swindon Town, Blackpool, Rochdale and Peterborough United, they have drawn with Northampton Town, Plymouth Argyle, Burton Albion, MK Dons, Doncaster Rovers and Sunderland in their last game on Tuesday night while they have lost against Accrington  Stanley, Shrewsbury Town, Hull City, Gillingham, Bristol Rovers and Charlton Athletic.

In the cups, they have lost to Crawley Town in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup after knocking Barrow out on penalties in Round 1 while they lost on penalties against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup 1st Round. In the EFL Trophy, they beat Charlton and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-21s before a defeat to Leyton Orient to finish 2nd in their group before knocking out Arsenal’s Under-21s to set up a 3rd Round game at Bristol Rovers next month.

Goalkeeper Connal Trueman joined alongside defender Steve Seddon (both on loan from Birmingham City) as well as permanent signings of Cheye Alexander, Daniel Csoka and Ben Heneghan. Midfielders Alex Woodyard, Ethan Chislett and Jaakko Oksanen (the latter on loan) with forwards Ollie Palmer and Ryan Longman (loan) completing the signings.

They have let 12 players leave the club permanently, including former Alex players Joel Grant and Antoni Sarcevic, while 7 players have left the club on loan deals this season.

Billy Knott opened the scoring in the 7th minute for the visitors before 2 goals in 2 minutes from Byron Moore and Nick Powell saw the hosts lead inside the opening 12 minutes. Greg Pearson extended the lead on 31 minutes before goals from Sammy Moore (81) and substitute Christian Jolley (90) saw the Dons leave South Cheshire with a point.
