Former Swindon Town manager Maurice Malpas has put forward his case as candidate for the manager’s job at Gresty Road.

Malpas was sacked a month ago by Swindon following a poor start to the season but the former Motherwell and Sotland U-21s manager is looking for a quick route back into football.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Malpas says he would relish the chance to be manager of the Alex, saying:

‘Crewe is the type of club I’ve been brought up on, having been at Dundee United for 23 years where we brought through our own players. It’s a great club with excellent facilities.

‘I’m technically a manager, but I love coaching and I’m very comfortable with bringing young players through. That is the best way to build a club.’

Malpas is thought to be one of six managers interviewed for the job this week with a decision to be made imminently.
