Ipswich Town continue to talk about someone else’s player, with Jim Magilton insisting he won’t be paying over the odds.

Ipswich are well known admirers of Maynard and have been link constantly over the past three weeks. However, they have, as yet, failed to match the £2million-£2.5million valuation that the Alex hold of Nicky.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton says that the valuation may well price him out of the market. Speaking to eveningstandard.co.uk, whose expert opinion is so kindly telling us to ‘get real’, Magilton said:

“Nicky is someone we like and someone we feel has a lot of potential but it may be that Crewe prices him out of the market.

“Nicky has scored a lot of goals at that level and it could be he can step up – it is something we have to consider.

“But either way we are not going to pay over the odds for any player.”

Earlier Steve Holland admitted that bids had been received for Nicky but so far no-one had made an acceptable offer. Holland also revealed that Maynard was being kept well up to date with any offers.

It seems like only a matter of time before Maynard departs Gresty Road with the likes of Bristol City, Ipswich, Stoke City and Middlesbrough all showing firm interest. How depressing.
