Crewe will not pursue West Bromwich Albion’s Sherjill MacDonald as a loan target after the Dutch striker needs an operation. Steve Holland had already suggested that he would be interested in taking MacDonald on loan to sure up his forward line having seen MacDonald tally 6 goals in seven games for Hereford United earlier this year.

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray however ended Crewe’s hopes after revealing that MacDonald will be out for at least two weeks, needing a knee cartilage operation. Steve Holland has already made clear his reluctance to sign any player on loan who has fitness doubts.

Holland will now look elsewhere to see if any other targets pop up before the loan window shuts on the 27th March, with former Alex striker Steve Jones likely to be number one target. The Derry Dasher returned to fitness yesterday with a goal for Burnley’s reserves as they beat Bury’s reserves 1-0.

Meanwhile, former Alex midfielder Justin Cochrane today signed for relegation rivals Millwall. The 26 year old impressed during a two week trial at the club.
