Whelan And O’Connor Return To Parent Clubs

|

Crewe Alexandra has decided that they will not try to extend the loan deals of Liverpool’s Corey Whelan and Preston North End’s Kevin O’Connor with the two returning to their parent clubs on Monday.

Whelan has played as a right-back during his 6 months with the Alex and made 17 appearances in all competitions, the last of which was against Forest Green Rovers 2 weeks ago.

O’Connor has played just as a left-back and made 10 appearances in all competitions, most of which were while Harry Pickering was injured during September and October, but didn’t make an appearance after mid-November for the first team (he was a regular for the Under-23 team during our unbeaten streak of 8 games at that level).

Where does that leave the squad going forward?

At the minute we’ll be short of defensive options that have a little bit of experience of first-team football. As well as the back 4 that played today, we only have Hunt and Raynes as options while Nolan is out so we’ll need at least one more option, preferably at full-back. I do think that we’ll get at least 1, probably 2 in before the end of the window.
