Let The Floodgates Open

After a whole month of very little action in the transfer market, Steve Holland could finally get his transfer targets in the coming days.

The only official name out so far is Anthony Elding. The striker who turned the Alex down in January when he left Stockport for Leeds United is having talks with chairman John Bowler about a move to Gresty Road. Nicknamed ‘Eldinho’, the 26 year old made his name at Stockport where he scored 26 goals in 43 starts for the club. We can only hope that his comments upon leaving County have not stuck;

‘I was told bids had come in for me from Hartlepool and Crewe, but if they had been the only options I would have turned them down and stayed at County.’

The club have struck a deal on a as yet unnamed goalkeeper. The keeper has verbally agreed to join Crewe and the club will hope to have his signature before Monday is out. Former Birmingham goalkeepers Richard Kingson and Adam Legzdins are the two names being heavily linked, with the latter looking the most likely – after it was revealed on the Vital Crewe Message Board.

Of course, there’s then the on-going saga with Calvin Zola. Whilst neither Tranmere Rovers or Crewe Alexandra have confirmed the transfer of Zola, it does look almost certain that the move is imminent after his agent confirmed it. A work permit seems to be holding it up at the moment and if it goes smoothly, this transfer too could be wrapped up some time next week.

Meanwhile, a background deal could still be alive. Stevenage’s Steve Morison is looking more likely to leave the Boro after Stevenage secured the signature of Lee Boylan from Cambridge this week. Boylan is the third senior striker Stevenage have signed this summer and transfer listed Morison now looks likely to depart.

Morison has been open to offers following his transfer request last month. After finishing the Blue Square Premiership season as second top scorer with 22 goals, Morison was understandably disappointed when Stevenage missed out on the play-offs for a chance for promotion to the Football League.

Holland is a long term admirer of the former Northampton man and media reports suggest a bid may have been submitted for the 24 year old.

So it’s been a long wait for the first bit of transfer action but maybe this week the tide will turn and three, maybe four (yes, four), players will be confirmed as Crewe Alexandra players over the next 5 or six days.

Maybe.

    Do you expect Nicky Maynard to still be with you at the start of the season?
