Leeds United will start the League One season with a 15 points deduction it was announced this evening.

After a long running saga on whether Leeds will be able to play in the league next season, the Football League today confirmed that Leeds will be able to start the season under the condition they accept a 15 point deduction.

Leeds United, meanwhile, have decided to appeal the decision, as confirmed by a club statement:

“We are pleased to announce that the board of the Football League Ltd have agreed to transfer the share in the Football League to Leeds United 2007 Ltd.

“The Football League have transferred the share in ‘exceptional circumstances’ and have imposed a 15-point penalty for the start of the 2007/08 season. The club have appealed against this sanction. The timescale for the appeal is not yet known.”

They have also had their transfer embargo lifted and are now able to sign players again. It remains to be seen as to whether Leon Constantine will sign for the Yorkshire club or if the points deduction will rule Leeds out of his search for Championship football.

Last season, Rotherham United started the season with a 10 point deduction after going into administration. Rotherham were relegated at the end of the season.

If only the Premier League had had the same balls to impose the points deduction on West Ham. Apparrantly The Premier League took into account the West Ham fans feelings, obviously the FL dosen’t feel the same towards Leeds then

see what happens on appeal, better it get’s reduced to something like 3pts! 10 pts deducted would be about right for me.

10 would be fair, but if it is to be 15 then so be it. Something so dodgy about Bates and the way this whole sorry affair has been run.

I think it was 10 points for Leeds and 5 for Bates!
