Crewe Alexandra were denied in their search for a fourth successive victory as Doncaster Rovers came from behind in a 2-1 triumph at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Richard Wellens grabbed a last-minute winner to move the hosts into the play-offs after Dean Furman had cancelled out George Ray’s eighth-minute opener.

The Railwaymen took the lead when Alan Tate helped on a near post corner and Ray was on hand to claim his second goal of the campaign.

It could have been even better with home goalkeeper Stephen Bywater thwarting both Nicky Ajose and Marcus Haber ahead of the break.

However, Rovers proceeded to dominate proceedings and were back in it with just over an hour gone when Furman scrambled home a 62nd minute free-kick.

But there was nothing untidy about their winner as substitute Curtis Main and Reece Wabara linked up for Wellens to curl an excellent finish beyond Ben Garratt.

Doncaster Rovers: Bywater, Wabara, McCombe, Butler, Stevens, Keegan, Furman, Bennett (Razak 78), Wellens, Tyson, Ikpeazu (Main 74)
