Former loan striker Nicky Ajose scored on his return to Gresty Road as Swindon Town came from behind to win 3-1 against Crewe Alexandra.

On loan midfielder Adam King gave the hosts the lead with more than an hour played, but Tom Smith equalised just a couple of minutes later.

Newcomer Wes Thomas then struck again for the visitors with eight minutes remaining before Ajose added a late third to leave his former club bottom of the table.

Skipper Harry Davis earlier returned to the starting line-up after a recent knee injury while Chris Atkinson and Lauri Dalla Valle were both recalled. Teenager Callum Ainley was included amongst the substitutes.

Thomas fired too high for the visitors early on and Liverpool loan keeper Lawrence Vigourous turned over from Ryan Colclough before his defence scrambled away the resultant corner.

Colclough was to call him into action on a further two occasions and recalled pair Dalla Valle and Atkinson similarly threatened.

Opposite number Ben Garratt easily collected from Ajose upon the restart before Atkinson was narrowly wide for the hosts, who escaped falling behind when Ajose missed an inviting target after confusion between Ollie Turton and his goalkeeper.

Chilean shot-stopper Vigouroux soon turned aside Brad Inman’s effort from distance, but couldn’t prevent King’s 25-yard strike earning his side a valuable lead.

It didn’t last for long, however, with Smith instantly levelling after Garratt had initially thwarted on loan Birmingham City forward Thomas.

Home keeper Garratt soon denied Ajose again, while Colclough chipped narrowly over in reply before Thomas held off the attentions of Davis to give his side the lead.

That was duly increased late on by recent arrival Ajose’s curled finish following decent work down the left from the visitors.
