Late Goal Sees Alex To Third Consecutive Win

|

A late goal from Zac Williams saw Crewe Alexandra defeat Accrington at the Crown Ground yesterday, a goal that gave the visitors a third straight win and a third clean sheet in 4 games.

Manager Lee Bell made 1 change from last Saturday’s 1-0 home win against Morecambe as Jack Lankester came in for Shilow Tracey, who dropped to the bench, while Omar Bogle missed out due to injury so Manchester City loanee Kian Breckin returned to the bench.

The opening chance came in the 6th minute with Joel Tabiner having a shot blocked by defender Batty before the midfielder missed the target 8 minutes later from outside the box. Michael Kelly would deny the Liverpudlian in the 28th minute before Max Sanders would have an effort curl past the post on the stroke of half-time.

Lankester would have the ball in the net 9 minutes after the break but the goal would be denied for an offside before substitute Nelson Khumbeni would have an effort saved by Filip Marschall at the other end just before the hour-mark. The deadlock would be broken 5 minutes from time as a Ryan Cooney long throw was cleared back to the wing-back with his cross converted by Williams at the back post from close range

The next games for the Alex see them host Harrogate Town next Saturday before travelling to Newport County the following Saturday.

Final Thoughts:

This game was a hard watch from an entertainment stand, especially in the first half, but the Alex would grind out a result again – hopefully going back to the resilience that we had in the first two-thirds of last season when there was enough first-team players available without having a bench that was full of scholars and first-year pros.
