Crewe Alexandra were this time indebted to a late equaliser as Harry Davis headed an injury-time leveller in a 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic.

The Latics went in front early in the second-half when Gary Harkins drove inside the near post, only for Davis to rescue a crucial point from George Evans’ late corner.

Manager Steve Davis sent out an unchanged side following their midweek draw at Walsall, with returning skipper Abdul Osman included amongst their substitutes.

Big striker Johnson Clarke-Harris soon headed a Harkins free-kick wide for the visitors while Chuks Aneke’s reply was charged down on the edge of the area.

But opportunities continued to be restricted and the action decidedly scrappy, although Harkins struck a free-kick into the defensive wall and then fired straight at Ben Garratt.

Danny Philliskirk also threatened ahead of the interval before the visitors broke on 52 minutes and David Worrall allowed Harkins to cut inside and beat Garratt at his near post.

The Railwaymen weren’t creating a great deal in reply and introduced Vadaine Oliver for Mathias Pogba. He was though caught in possession and Clarke-Harris shot wide before also despatching another free-kick into the wall.

However, Aneke’s late free-kick had to be tipped over by Paul Rachubka and Evans delivered the corner headed in at the far post by Davis for a priceless equaliser.
