Uche Ikpeazu scored on his return to Crewe Alexandra but Doncaster Rovers grabbed a late equaliser at Gresty Road.

Ikpeazu latched onto a pass from fellow loanee Nicky Ajose to drive the home side in front on the half-hour, only for James Coppinger to level after goalkeeper Ben Garratt had denied Luke McCullough with ten minutes remaining.

Coppinger had already gone close during the opening exchanges, with Garratt turning over to keep him out. Nathan Tyson then struck too high from the corner.

But it was Crewe forging head when Ajose’s cutback witnessed a deflected shot from Ikpeazu beyond the helpless Sam Johnstone.

Ollie Turton was then wide as the hosts pressed for another while Paul Keegan had an effort deflect through to Garratt following the restart.

Adam Dugdale was defending strongly for the home side and Ikpeazu continued to offer threat travelling in the opposite direction.

On loan Curtis Main was next too high for the visitors and substitute Theo Robinson called Garratt into routine action, until Coppinger turned in an equaliser after Garratt had initially blocked at a corner.

Both sides continued to try and take maximum points over the closing minutes but on this occasion the honours were to remain shared.
