Crewe Alexandra slipped back into the relegation zone after a late winner from Notts County debutant Billy Daniels at Meadow Lane.
Liam Noble had given the home side the lead with a penalty just before the break but Jamie Ness equalised at the start of the second period.
However, substitute Daniels settled it inside the final five minutes and there was still time for Noble to be dismissed for a second caution.
The Railwaymen created opportunities early on with Nicky Ajose missing twice but fell into arrears when after Garry Thompson and Hayden Hollis had already threatened with headers, Kwame Thomas was taken down inside the area by Jon Guthrie. Noble made no mistake from the spot.
The visitors responded straight after the interval courtesy of on loan midfielder Ness’ driven finish from just inside the box – and substitute Lauri Dalla Valle went close to another with a deflected effort.
At the other end Thompson twice missed the target and new signing Will Hayhurst should have done better with a header after appeals for offside.
But substitute Daniels produced a fine volley to secure maximum points for the hosts ahead of Noble seeing red for his challenge on Anthony Grant in added time.
