21-year old defender Darran Kempson has today signed a one-year deal with Crewe. The centre-back impressed during his trial period, and will add some much needed competition for places in the defensive positions.

Kempson rejected the security of a new deal at Morecambe simply to join Crewe on trial, and his gamble has proven to be a good one. Kempson will begin the season as Crewe’s third choice centre back, behind Neil Cox and Julien Baudet.

Dario highlighted Kempson’s pace, physical attributes and his young age as the main reasons for signing the defender. With the likes of Baudet and Cox far from Olympic sprinters, Kempson’s pace could prove to be a useful asset in next season’s campaign.
