Goalkeeper Steve Phillips is to have surgery to remove a lump on his knee next week.

“It is nothing major but he needs it to remove a little lump, growth on his knee” – Steve Davis

The experienced 34-year-old will undergo the operation next Monday and as a result be ruled out for a further month once it is completed.

Phillips had already missed the highly successful pre-season campaign and recently visited both a specialist and consultant in order to finally sort out the problem.

“Steve will have an operation on Monday,” manager Steve Davis confirmed to Crewe’s official website. “It is nothing major but he needs it to remove a little lump, growth on his knee that has been given him discomfort and prevented him from full extending his knee.”
