Ex-Alex keeper Clayton Ince will face Crewe for the first time since leaving Gresty Road on Saturday on the back of winning the division’s November Player of the Month award.
Ince left Crewe for Coventry in 2005 despite much of the Alex support wishing him to stay. In his time at Crewe he broke the record for the number of clean sheets in one season (22) as he helped the team to promotion in 02/03. His ability to dominate his area and pull off some breath taking saves made him a fans favourite throughout his 6 years here.
His time at Coventry was frustrating and after just four starts he moved on after just one year, making the surprise drop to then League Two side Walsall. It was a familiar story at the Bescot as he kept 7 clean sheets in his first 10 Walsall games before going on to help Walsall become League Two Champions, breaking their clean sheet record in the process.
This Saturday’s game, as Walsall visit Gresty Road, will be the first time Ince has lined up against the Railwaymen and he will do so as Player of the Month.
The Trinidad and Tobago keeper fought off tough competition from the likes of Forest striker Nathan Tyson and Brighton striker Nicky Forster to take the award after four clean sheets in six November games.
And we’re sure Clayton will get a good reception on his return. At least from the fans, if not Nicky Maynard – right?
