Goalkeeper Steve Phillips is intent on a second successive Wembley triumph with Crewe Alexandra this weekend.

“To get promotion last season at Wembley was brilliant, and it’s a great achievement to get to a final this season” – Steve Phillips

The 34-year-old appears certain to be recalled for their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final with Southend United after being relieved of duties for the latest 1-0 victory over Preston North End.

“To get promotion last season at Wembley was brilliant, and it’s a great achievement to get to a final this season,” Phillips told the Crewe Guardian. “It’s what we set out to do at the start of the season, and to come past a very good Coventry City side over two legs to get there was really pleasing.

“Hopefully we can finish off the job, but we know it will be tough against a very strong Southend team,” he continued. “We edged them out in the play-off semi-finals last season, so there will be an extra interest there as well – and everyone’s looking forward to it.”
