Experienced goalkeeper Steve Phillips is determined to hold onto the number one role at Crewe Alexandra.

“I’ve always been ultra-competitive and I want to be the number one” – Steve Phillips

The 35-year-old is approaching six hundred senior games during his long career and has already been handed the responsibility of coaching his most likely successors at the club in Alan Martin and Ben Garratt.

However, Phillips has no intentions of taking a back seat to anyone else anytime soon and is keen to remain as first-choice between the uprights.

“I have a few years left in me yet,” he told the Crewe Chronicle. “I feel as fit as I’ve ever done and I don`t feel that my body is deteriorating. I’ve always been ultra-competitive and I want to be the number one.”
