Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips has dismissed claims that their forthcoming Wembley trip has caused his colleagues to lose focus in the league.

“We are solely concentrating on the most important thing, our league position” – Steve Phillips

The Alex are shortly to visit the national stadium again to face League Two opponents Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on 7th April.

But their recent record of just one win in their last six games and successive defeats to struggling Hartlepool United and Portsmouth has certainly stalled their league progress of late.

“It is easy for people to jump on the bandwagon saying ‘Wembley is around the corner, they have their minds on that’,” Phillips told the Crewe Chronicle. “But that’s a load of rubbish, so far from the truth it is unbelievable. We are solely concentrating on the most important thing, our league position.”
