Alan Martin did his own chances of starting the season as Crewe Alexandra’s goalkeeper no harm following another confident display at the weekend.

The Scot is currently getting his chance with the vastly experienced Steve Phillips sidelined by a knee injury.

On Saturday, Martin, 23, took the gloves against Championship newcomers Bolton Wanderers as Alex shared a 1-1 draw in their latest friendly at Gresty Road.

“I thought Alan did well in what was his first real game if you like at home and in front of a decent crowd,” manager Steve Davis admitted to Crewe’s official website. “He deserves a special mention because I thought he handled it well and make some good saves.

“He may start the season in the team because we are unsure how long Steve will be out for,” he added. “This is Alan`s chance to impress and he has done well so far.”
