Crewe Alexandra have signed experienced former Rotherham United goalkeeper Scott Shearer on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old arrives having been released after making fourteen appearances for the League One play-off winners last season.

Shearer will now offer stiff competition to youngster Ben Garratt for a regular starting place at Gresty Road. He is already closing in on 350 senior appearances during a fourteen-year career including spells with Coventry City, Bristol Rovers, Wycombe Wanderers, Wrexham and Crawley Town.

The Glasgow-born shot-stopper will also be charged with working closely with Garratt and alongside the club’s first-team coaching staff.
