Crewe have come to an agreement with Juan Ugarte over the termination of his contract. The striker had another year left to run on his current deal but leaves by ‘mutual consent’ after an injury plagued time at Gresty Road. Ugarte’s arrival at the club was met with huge enthusiasm by Crewe supporters, as they saw the unique occurrence of Crewe beating off the likes of Cardiff for a players’ signature.

However, after scoring in a pre-season friendly against Oldham, Ugarte sufferred a knee injury which resulted in him missing the start of the season. Having recovered from that injury, Ugarte made his only start for the club in the League Cup as Crewe were mauled 5-1 at Lincoln. After substitute appearances at Reading and Leicester, it became apparent that Ugarte’s stay at Gresty Road would not be successful one. The 25-year old was subsequently loaned back to Wrexham, where he picked up an injury on his debut. Following another period of recuperation, Ugarte once again joined Wrexham on loan, only to pick up yet another injury. Since then, Ugarte has struggled to overcome that injury, and has also had an ankle injury. Ugarte spent time in Spain visiting several doctors, but failed to report back to the club on the required date.

Ugarte becomes the 11th Crewe player to depart the club this summer, not including the likes of Bougherra and Turnbull who were on loan last season.
