Steve Holland has revealed that he still hopes to sign former Alex striker Steve Jones on loan and extend Dean Morgan’s stay before Thursday’s deadline.
‘Jonah’ has been number one target for Holland since theBurnley man signaled his interest of returning to Gresty Road in January. The return was almost signed and sealed by the end of January till an injury scuppered the deal.
Jones returned to fitness last week, playing and scoring for Burnley’s reserves, and Steve Holland now wants to return to the deal in the hope of securing Jones but much will depend on if Burnley boss Owen Coyle will be willing to let his striker go.
Jonah’s return though will not mean the end of Dean Morgan. Morgan played his last game of his current loan spell in the 1-1 draw at Walsall. The attacker’s loan deal doesn’t expire till April 3rd but with rules stating his can’t play against his parent club Luton Town on Saturday then a premature return down south was always on he cards.
Holland however wants to extend Morgan’s stay for the rest of the season and having had the nod from Luton manager Mick Harford, it all depends on the finances between the two clubs.
Both deals will have to be done before Thursday’s 5pm loan deadlines.
Holland told crewealex.net: ‘I’ve kept in touch with Steve and he played for Burnley reserves last week. I don’t think he has suffered any reaction to his injury, so he remains a possibility before Thursday.
‘Signing Dean or not will have no bearing on trying to sort something out in regards to Jonah.’
