It’s Tough Losing To A Poor Side

When you get beat by a team you should be knocking three or four past you end up blaming anyone and everyone.

Southend’s Steve Tilson lay the blame for tonight’s 1-0 defeat at the feet of the referee… or the Alex’s negative tactics… or at his own players.

In fact, he may wonder if we bored his players into submission: ‘It was not a good game to watch and Crewe’s game plan worked. It was one of the most boring games I have watched.

‘Crewe would have seen us win our last two games and being a team at the bottom, they came and defended very deep with lots of numbers behind the ball.

‘It was a good free kick for them to score, but advantage was given six seconds after the offence was committed.

‘It is always hard to score with the amount of bodies they got behind the ball. In that situation, it was always going to be difficult to create any clear cut chances.

‘The lads know in there that we didn’t pass it well enough tonight. You need to pass well and have good movement to open sides up.’

Diddums.

In reality it was a brilliant 30 yard free kick from left back Billy Jones that won it. Could well be the most important goal Billy will ever score – or it could be a consolation in his first relegation as a player.
