New manager Gudjon Thordarson spoke following his first game in charge of the Alex.

The game at Millwall’s The New Den ended in a 2-2 draw. Despite going ahead in the 12th minute through a Dennis Lawrence header the Lions pegged the Alex back, taking a 2-1 lead into half time. A wonderful free kick from 17 year old Daniel Shelley on the hour mark earnt the Railwaymen a replay, to be played a week on Tuesday.

Thordarson told the official website, crewealex.net: : ‘I was pleased with the way the players came back in the second half and in the end it is a good result for us because from finding ourselves 1-0 up, we were 2-1 behind very quickly going into half-time. Credit to the players.

‘We knew young Shelley can strike free-kicks like that. I’ve seen it in the practice and it was an excellent strike. He was committed in the game and played well and had the confidence to step forward and take it. The execution was superb.

‘The most encouraging thing for me is to see the committment and spirit of the players and it is healthy to still be in the FA Cup. It is nice to see who we could get in the next round but the job is only half done here and Millwall will be a tough game again.’

Our name will now be in today’s draw for the Fourth Round at 3:25pm on ITV. Ourselves and Millwall will be ball number 18.
